Since the subtitles are embedded in the video, they can be shared across the platforms without sharing a separate subtitle file, and are accessible to all regardless of the media player used and the support.
  • Softcoded subtitles, also known as external subtitles, are separate files that accompany a video but are not permanently embedded in a video. This kind of softcoded subtitles comes in various formats, such as SRT, VTT, etc. Softcoded subtitles offer a lot of flexibility as the viewer can turn on or off during the playback.
  • External subtitles are saved as independent text files in extensions like .srt and .vtt. You will need to manually import the files to play the videos in a media player.
