It’ll come as no surprise to anyone that Discord servers are becoming more and more social as the years go by. One popular feature in a long line of features to become available to Discord users is the social feature – allowing users to connect Spotify to their Discord, whether they are free or Premium users. It can be a great way to socialize with friends and share the music you think other individuals will be interested in. This article explains how to link Spotify to Discord. Part 1: Play Spotify on Discord by Connecting Accounts

After connecting your Spotify with your Discord, you can show off your Spotify playlist, and people within your Discord server have access to your playlist and listen in to what you’re listening to. They can also add the song to their own playlist. You can also do that like your friends. Whilst this doesn’t add a great deal to the overall user experience, it is a nice way to further socialize your Discord servers.

How to connect Spotify to Discord? Thankfully, setting this up couldn’t be easier. Better yet, linking your Spotify account to your Discord doesn't require Spotify Premium or Discord Nitro. So, let’s waste no further time and dive straight into it!

Connect Spotify and Discord on a Desktop

Step #1. Start by loading up the Discord desktop app, and clicking on user settings – that’s the gear icon at the bottom of the Discord channel.

Step #2. From the left menu, click Connections. Click the Spotify icon. A small window will pop up. Log into your Spotify account via the Facebook button or by entering your Spotify username and password.

Step #1. On your Android or iOS device, open Discord.

Step #2. If you’re in a server, swipe in from the left to reveal all of the tabs at the bottom. Tap the User Settings button, which looks like your Discord profile picture. This is the tab at the bottom that is furthest to the right.

Step #3. In USER SETTINGS, tap the Connections tab. Then you will see that there’s an “Add” button at the top right area of the screen. Tap on it. Then, from the options that appear below, select Spotify. Log into your Spotify account to connect it.

Step #4. Once done, you have connected Spotify to Discord successfully. Now make sure the toggle beside Display Spotify as your status option is enabled.

Listen Along with Discord Friends

After linking Spotify account to Discord, you can now start sharing your favorite music with your friends! Discord has a handy feature called Listen Along that lets you listen to music with friends on Spotify.

Before getting started, it is important to note that all the participants will need a Spotify Premium account to access the feature. If you invite a friend who doesn’t have Spotify Premium, they will get an error message and won’t be able to participate in the listening party. Also, you can't invite others to listen along on mobile.

Here’s how to start a "Listen Along" session on Discord using the desktop app.

Step #1. Open Spotify and play some music you like.

Step #2. Switch back to Discord while playing music on Spotify, you will see a green play icon on the "+" upload file button in the message box.

Step #3. Click it and choose the "Invite [user/channel] to Listen to Spotify" option. You can use this feature on public/private Discord channels as well as personal DMs.

Step #4. The invite screen will appear and show the song you’re listening to. Add a comment if you want and click the Send Invite button. The invite is dynamic, so the songs will change while playing different music tracks or podcasts.

Step #5. Your friend (or channel members) will now get an invite link. Now, all they have to do is click on the "Join" button in the invite to take part in the listening party.

Part 2: Play Spotify on Discord by Adding Discord Bots

Although you can indeed connect Spotify to Discord and play music that way, the connect feature between Spotify and Discord is quite limited. All it can do is show the current song playing on Spotify on your Discord profile. We have another alternative option to play Spotify on Discord with more functionality.

Discord doesn’t offer all the features every community needs. That’s where bots come in. And music bots are just one of them. Much like the name suggests, a music bot is a bot that enables you to play music with a nice and easy automated process and offers more functionality for all members of a channel to make playlists on the fly while gaming. It’s nice to share your favorite songs straight through Discord without requiring any additional services or account connecting.

There are thousands of Discord music bots out there and new ones are being created all the time. FlaviBot is one of the most popular music bots that’s used in over 230k servers. While supporting basic music bot features like playing music, playlists, and skipping, it also has features like filters (8D, demon, bass boost, etc.), an advanced web dashboard, playing music from files, Spotify integration, and 24/7 (premium.)

Before using a bot, make sure you have the right level of access to the server. To add a music bot (or any bot), you need to be an Admin or a server manager.

Step #1. First, open the top.gg Discord bot store, search for FlaviBot and click on the "View" option to open it. In the right sidebar, click on the "Invite" button to add FlaviBot to your server.

Invite FlaviBot

Step #2. On the next screen, review the permissions the bot requests. If you don’t think giving a certain permission is fine, don’t! The bot will let you know if the missing permissions are preventing it from working as intended

Step #3. Done! You invited the bot - FlaviBot will now send a welcome message to your default channel.

FlaviBot has an extensive web dashboard that allows you to easily manage and customize the bot with a simple visual interface instead of relying on commands within Discord. You can also manage the currently playing music, queue, and playlists from the dashboard.

To play music in Discord, join a voice channel, then type the /join command to get FlaviBot to join your voice channel. You can then use the /play command to choose a song. As you type, FlaviBot will give you suggestions for the song you're looking for. Once the song is playing, you can see this nice interface for managing the music in Discord. The web player will also sync up with the music, so you can manage it from there if you prefer. The music-playing interface you'll see in Discord.
